Yahweh, our God, how magnificent is Your name throughout the earth. You have covered the heavens with Your majesty. Because of Your adversaries, You have established a stronghold from the mouths of children and nursing infants to silence the enemy and the avenger. Psalm 8:1,2
Yesterday I looked at this psalm and am again drawn to it, but this time to the simplicity of praise. I have 6 grandchildren and it blesses me to read the above scripture. Little children are so pure in their understanding and appreciation.
My youngest grandson Archie is difficult to understand yet in all his babble I know he loves to talk to me and because of that I love to talk to him.
My bible commentary says: even the feeblest of humanity, with their sometimes inarticulate speech function as firm testimonies (a stronghold) of God's glory and silence the enemy and the avenger. According to Jesus, children and their simple faith are the best representatives of God's kingdom. (Mt 18:4) Paul also made a similar argument when he described God's use of weakness and foolishness to "shame the wise". (1Cor 1:18-29)
I can rejoice that even in my foolishness He will use me for His glory, for He is good.
I am so blessed that inarticulate speech of children is a stronghold for my God's glory. So often we hear about 'strongholds' of the enemy yet here we see what God creates His strongholds out of. Thank You Lord! May You be glorified in the little ones. Amen!
