Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, you are looking for me, not because you saw the miraculous signs but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of man will give you. On him God the Father has placed his seal of approval."
Then they asked Him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?"
Jesus answered them, The work of God is this: to believe in the one He has sent."John 6:26-29
Our reasons for seeking the Lord varies. I am currently reading Steve Jobs book written by Walter Isaacson. He noted that Steve had been taken to church by his adoptive family but there came a point when Steve rejected Christ because of Church dogma and the fact that he could not come to terms with a God who allowed suffering. He wanted a God that would level the playing field and make all things good.
Most often we want a God who does stuff for us, because we are self-centred. We like to dictate how a god must behave. This is arrogance at it's best.
Learning that God requires us to believe in His Son and trust Him, takes humility. However, when we come into relationship with him we see, it is not about us, never was about us, it is about Him and His Kingdom.
Insisting that God must perform according to our dictates only injures us and drives us further from Him and truth, which heals.
Jesus is not just a deliverer, a doer of miracles, a provider, but God, a God who deserves honour and praise. He is more, a God who loves passionately and wants the best for us. Our trouble is in understanding why bad stuff happens. It happens because we are ignorant, we are naive, we sin, we hurt others and in turn are hurt or we are victims.
Christ has a better way, the way of the victor if we would dare seek Him, He has the answers if we would dare believe in Him, He has the Way if we would dare follow Him. Amen!
