Heroes and Idols

Dear children, keep yourselves from idols. 1john 5:21

When I was a young teenager I had cut out pics of all my movie heroes. The biggest was Elvis. I had him stuck right at eye level where I could talk to him. In my dreams he knew me well.

As I grew up that hero phase died and I became my own person as a nurse and until I became a Christian I lacked a hero. When I found Christ my knight on a white horse came and saved my from my enemy.

Idolatry is everywhere! Even in Christianity there are the heroes and heroines. I am sure Joyce Myer is right up there, as is Darlene Czech. I am sure d you asked them if they desired such a status they would disagree.

Yet even in the early church they had hthe growing factions: 'I am of Appolos; I am of Paul' etc and were admonished for such behavior.

Why would John warn of such a trap? Because he could see it.
