Dear friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers, even though they are strangers to you. They have told the church about your love. You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God. 3john 5,6
Gaius, the man this letter was addressed to was given to hospitality, I wonder if he was Italian.
I am currently reading a delightful little book called 'The Hills of Tuscany', the author Ferenc Mate is given to a humorous style of writing one minute and the next his descriptions of Tuscany sunsets and early mornings leave me thirsty for more. The people he writes about, Italians of course, are given to hospitality and relationship in a most volatile and forceful way.
I could imagine Christian Italians would be a wonder to behold.
Gaius excells to the point that he is a part of scripture. I would like to meet this godly man.
I love how John talks of sending these men of the gospel out in a way 'worthy of God'.
Do we ever consider that the way we treat others must be in a way worthy of God?
I try to train my grandchildren in a way worthy of God and today was blessed as my daughter's children called me to sing me a song I sing to them constantly, 'Have Patience'. It did my heart soooo good as I am still away from home and lately have been praying in earnest for my family.
