Genuine Love
Do not cast me off in times of old age; forsake me not when my strength is spent. Psalm 71:9
I have several aunties and a mother in their 80s. One of my aunts said to me, 'Dianne come and visit me anytime, I am usually home.'
This aunt has five children of her own and each of them have children and their children have children. Can you see how from one woman there are so many yet my aunts is 'usually at home.'
Being cast off is something that elderly people struggle with. They are considered too old to do many activities that consumes much of the time of the younger generations.
Yet inside all elderly is still the need to be loved and wanted.
In this Psalm David is either old or getting there (like me I suppose).
I know how busy my children are with their children and I know how I must go to them if I want to see them.
Many elderly cannot go and must wait for others to come to them. I know if I had to wait I might wait a long time.
I am so grateful to my God that He delights in me and longs for me more than I long for Him. I can be confident that He will always want to be with me.
Now, as His servant I must be ever ready to love, first Him and then others.
Romans 12:9 tells me that love must be genuine and to hate evil (I think evil comes from loving the world and things of the world more than Him)
