Allowing the Light to Shine

No one, after lighting a lamp, covers it with a basket or puts in under a bed, but puts it on a lamp stand so that those who come in may see the light. For nothing is concealed that wont be revealed, and nothing hidden that wont be made known and come to light. Therefore fake care how you listen. For whoever has, more will be given to him; and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken away from him. Luke 8:16-18

This scripture is often taken for allowing your light as a Christian to shine yet Jesus, here, is talking about the receipt of revelation. As I receive revelation I allow it to impact my life, changing it. For if I actively use what has been given I will receive more. Conversely, if I fail to appropriate revelation I in fact lose ground.

How to I receive? I welcome it and allow it in to challenge my behaviour, my attitudes, my desires. If revelation is welcome then more will come.

However, if I am too preoccupied to listen or receive it moves on and great is my loss.

My task then is to be open and cultivate good soil in which revelation can germinate. Amen!
