Grace and Mercy

"Let these words sink down into your ears, for the Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men".
But they did not understand this saying, and it was hidden from them so that they did not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask Him about this saying.
Then a dispute arise among them as to which of them would be greatest. Luke 9::44-46

Oh dear! How ashamed they would be in the future when they did 'get it'!

I am so grateful that Jesus did not lose patience with them. He knew He was about to die and here were his closest friends squabbling about a carnal contest.

Jesus is all grace and patiently takes a child and teaches them a lesson on humility.

However our bold troupe were on a roll. They rebuked someone for casting out demons in His name and because that person did not belong to the team, again Jesus steps in and tells them, "he who is not against us is for us!"

But there is more. Jesus sent His disciples on to a Samaritan town to prepare a place for them but because Jesus had His face set to Jerusalem the town did not welcome them. The disciples were all ready to call down fire on the town. Jesus again stepped in and said, " you do not know what spirit you are speaking from!"

All this happened after the transfiguration and the Father telling them to listen to His Son.

Yet Jesus still loved them and was patient with them. I would have begun to fray.

Aren't you glad I am not Jesus? I am! Here is grace and mercy in action. I so rely on it for my own life. I am sooo grateful!
