About eight days after these words, He took along Peter, John and James and went up on a mountain to pray. And as He was praying, the appearance of His face changed, and His clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly two men were talking with Him - Moses and Elijah. They appeared in glory and were speaking of His death, which He was about to accomplish in Jerusalem.
Peter and those with Him were in a deep sleep, and when they became fully awake, they saw His glory and the two men who were standing with Him. Luke 9:28-32
Jesus had a habit of going up mountains to pray and when He prayed He touched heaven and fellowshipped with the Father and those who were with the Father. It is interesting that Moses and Elijah were the ones who came and talked to Him.
Moses and Elijah were talking to Jesus about the cross. I wonder if they were encouraging Him or perhaps looking beyond the cross to you and me.
The disciples were in a deep sleep. They were often in a deep sleep when important things were happening yet there would come a time when they would be very much awake.
Today I have been at a work conference and as soon as possible I left and came back to my hotel in Brisbane. I find the things of the world so empty and long for solitude. I wanted to swim and when I did I found a woman who I had to talk to. I came away invigorated.
I then showered and went for a walk and loved being by myself looking and listening. I had hoped to find a book to read but returned empty handed. I am now awake in the wee hours aware that what I needed was the creator of all things and His book.
I have just read the book that surpasses all books, the living book, the word of God. In it I discover who I am and how to live, in it I am empowered and made alive. 'God's word is living and active sharper than any two edged sword cutting through soul and spirit, joint and marrow. It judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart.' Hebrews 4:12
Nothing is more important to me than the word of God! Amen! I love it!
