Messiah
So Pilate asked Him, "Are you the King of the Jews?"
He answered him, "you have said it."
Pilate then told the chief priests and the crowds, "I find no grounds for charging this man."
Luke 23:3-5
The chief priests had dragged Jesus off to Pilate hoping to construct a case against Him and have Him killed so that His blood would not have been on their hands.
Pilate was not stupid, he had his position for a reason. Although Jesus admitted He was King of the Jews, Pilate was not concerned. No doubt he had know about Jesus and heard what had been happening as a result of His presence in Jerusalem.
Pilate did not want to be drawn into a lynching, needlessly, and so when he discovered Jesus was a Galilean he sent Him to Herod.
Jesus had nothing to say to Herod.
The falsification of facts and elaboration of lies can backfire, as it was appearing to do with Pilate. The scribes and Pharisees would have to go into overdrive to convince someone in authority that they had a valid case.
Jesus was quite aware of all the ways of man and the wickedness that he was capable of. He knew where He was going and was willing but did not give His accusers room to move, He showed no fear.
He allowed this for us, His beloved. We were worth the sacrifice. His grace and mercy extends right though time to us in the here and now. All we need to do is ask Him in. How good is that?
Ask Him today! Amen!
