The Guardian
Before this faith came, we were confined under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith was revealed. The law, then was our guardian until Christ, so that we could be justified by faith. But since that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, for you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:23-26
A guardian is a substitute for the parents. The guardian may be helpful but cannot love and relate like the parent.
The law spelled out the goodness of God and what was required to please Him however, keeping the law, or should I say trying to keep the law proved futile, it was an impossible task. Therefore relationship with the Father was impossible because sin in us caused us to break the covenant.
But now there is a better way. Christ redeemed us, He bought us back, so that our relationship now centres on the goodness of God and not our ability to keep the law. Much better!
