A God Encounter

Then the word of The Lord came to Elijah and He said to him, "what are you doing here Elijah?" He replied, "I have been very zealous for the Lord God of Hosts, but the Israelites have abandoned Your  covenant, torn down your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword, I alone am left, and they are looking for me to take my life."
Then He said, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the Lord's presence." 1 Kings 19:9-11

Notice The Lord did not endorse Elijah's lament, nor did He show pity. Elijah was doing enough with self-pity. Yet, our God did not condemn him.

Much like a good father, The Lord instructed Elijah where to go next, giving an anticipation of God's next move.

Elijah goes to the mountain and God reveals His power but Elijah waits for His voice, a still, small voice. Again God asks Elijah why he is there and again Elijah replies as before, he has nothing new to add, even in the midst of God being so evident in his care.

Elijah was wounded, stuck! He needed a God encounter to set him free and that is precisely what he received.

God then gave him His strategy and informed Elijah that there were 7,000 others who had not bowed the knee to Baal. Suddenly Elijah was not alone. He had His God and his fellow man. Elijah was instructed to anoint two kings and also his successor Elisha. His time was almost over.

The Lord's presence was the healing source, not what He said. God gave instruction not pity yet we know He was loving Elijah by the way He cared for him in his flight, the way He came to Him on his arrival at Horeb.

Our God is an amazing God, full of power and might, love and peace. He is what we need, He is our source and supply, He is the answer. Seek Him and you will have the answers. Amen!
