Make Room For Him

One day Elisha went to Shunem. A prominent women who lived there persuaded him to eat some food. So whenever he passed by, he stopped there to eat. Then she said to her husband, " I know that the one who often passes by here is a holy man of God, so let's make a small room upstairs and put a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp there for him. Whenever he comes he can stay there." 2 kings 4:8-10

I love this story! A woman saw God in his prophet, I believe The Lord revealed it to her. She was hungry for God and did what she knew, she fed the prophet, but there was more, she wanted to house the prophet and give him comfort. She was attracted to God in him.

The woman persuaded her husband to build a room and fill it with necessary furniture for the prophet. She never asked for anything in return, perhaps having godliness in her house was enough.

But God had a plan. As we read on God provided a son as she was barren, what joy! His plans are best. Even when her son suddenly dies God has a plan to raise him up through a miracle. He reveals His character through the prophet.

Our God is good and delights in a heart that wants more of Him. Make room for Him and watch His love unfold. Amen!

Little Things Grow

The boy's mother said to Elisha, "as The Lord lives and you yourself live, I will not leave you. So he got up and followed her. 2 Kings 4:30 The Shunamite woman had travelled to Mt Carmel to find Elisha after the death of her son. Although Elisha had sent his servant Gehazi to the boy with his staff the woman had come to find Elisha and was not leaving without him. I like this lady's spirit. I am sure The Lord God Almighty also valued her heart. She had a heart for God and made room for Him in her world. Now, having lost her son she knew what to do: find Elisha and not let him go until he came to restore her son. What made the Shunamite woman believe that Elisha could raise her son? Was it the same faith that made her provide him a place to stay in her home? I believe it was God working in her life. I am grateful for her faith, I can read and be encouraged.
