Our Children
As the time approached for David to die, he instructed his son Solomon, "as for me, I am going the way of all the earth. Be strong and be courageous like a man, and keep your obligation to The Lord your God to walk in His ways and to keep His statutes, commands, ordinances, and decrees. This is written in the law of Moses, so that you will have success in everything you do and wherever you turn, so that The Lord will carry out His promise that He made to me: 'if your sons are careful to walk faithfully before Me with their whole mind and heart, you will never fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.' 1 Kings 2:1-4
We all desire that our children will walk in the ways of The Lord and raise their children to walk in the ways of The Lord. However, what we know to be the ways of The Lord, they do not automatically recognise as they mature and become their own person.
When they become their own person their walk with The Lord is between them and Him. He sees where He would have them go and what He wishes to use to mould them.
Being offended, shocked or bewildered can stem from our own understanding. It is now, more than ever that we must trust The Lord with the raising if our children and grandchildren.
David imparted all He could, however, depending on the choices of his children and the level of their commitment to The Lord, determined their success as being used by God.
Solomon loved The Lord and asked for wisdom to rule e people of God. However, Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, had a flaw, women. He was drawn away from The Lord by his women.
As a parent I can see many things in my children and now with the benefit of age can see how I would do things differently. I know my greatest calling now is to pray and stand by my children and be available when my opinion is asked for, and only give it then. This a challenging indeed.
However, I know my God and I must trust Him. Amen!
