Our God Has a Plan

Asa did what was right in the Lord's eyes, as his ancestor David had done. He banished the male cult prostitutes from the land and removed all of the idols that his father had made. He also removed his grandmother Maacah from being queen mother because she had made an obscene image of Asherah. Asa chopped down her obscene image and burned it in the Kidron valley. The high places were not taken away; but Asa's heart was completely devoted to The Lord his entire life. 1 Kings 15:11-14

But in his old age he developed a disease in his feet. V23

2 Chronicles tells us a little more about Asa's feet. It says he did not consult The Lord, only his physicians. It appears although he loved The Lord, he did not trust him with his health.

However, he did do something right. Asa's son was Jehoshaphat and he went further, he removed the high places and sought The Lord as a practice before he went to war. He also honoured the man of God. 

At the same time Israel suffered at the hands of their kings:  Nadab, Basha, Ahijah, Elah, Zimri, Omri and then Ahab, all wicked. Yet, amazingly there came the prophet Elijah in Israel who stood for righteousness and did mighty acts. How good is our God?

In amidst evil our God has a man who will speak. Though our nations appear to be sliding into the abyss our God has a plan and we can trust Him. Amen!

Little Things Grow

The boy's mother said to Elisha, "as The Lord lives and you yourself live, I will not leave you. So he got up and followed her. 2 Kings 4:30 The Shunamite woman had travelled to Mt Carmel to find Elisha after the death of her son. Although Elisha had sent his servant Gehazi to the boy with his staff the woman had come to find Elisha and was not leaving without him. I like this lady's spirit. I am sure The Lord God Almighty also valued her heart. She had a heart for God and made room for Him in her world. Now, having lost her son she knew what to do: find Elisha and not let him go until he came to restore her son. What made the Shunamite woman believe that Elisha could raise her son? Was it the same faith that made her provide him a place to stay in her home? I believe it was God working in her life. I am grateful for her faith, I can read and be encouraged.
