Mighty God

Around that throne (the Lord's throne) were 24 thrones, and on the thrones sat 24 elders dressed in white clothes, with gold crowns on their heads. Flashes of lightning and rumblings of thunder came from the throne. Seven fiery torches were burning before the throne, which are the seven spirits of God. Something like a sea of glass, similar to crystal, was before the throne.

Who are the 24 elders? As you can imagine there has been a lot of speculation about this matter. Some thinking that they were redeemed saints chosen to rule to one I am inclined to: angelic elders. What do I think this? The earthy pattern given to Moses represented a heavenly pattern. There were 24 rotating Levitical priests. The mercy seat represented God's throne and the cherubim represented the angelic beings.

I love mystery and intrigue and know, one day I will see for myself. However I believe angelic beings, created to attend The Lord Almighty, who represent all that is holy would be more likely than redeemed mankind. We don't have in us the ability to worship, non stop, even if we grasp the holiness of our God.

Next we have thunder and lighting. I have always loved storms and lighting and thunder are especially my favourites. Why? They represent power and might. God is seated on His throne and not working up a storm and just because He is there the atmosphere is charged by the thrilling energy of His presence. Yes!

The seven fiery torches could represent the seven churches, previously mentioned however as everything else in this picture is perfect, holy and without blemish I would say not especially as many of the churches had a warning to repent or lose their place.

Therefore what else could this be? Could it be the seven attributes of the Holy Spirit? This would be more likely as He is most Holy and represents all that is good and true.

Next we have a sea of glass. Glass can be seen through, totally open and honest. This sounds like our God. If this is around His throne then we know He is what He says: 'the Great I AM'. No other fancy title, no subtle nuance, no shadow, just pure 'what you see is what you get, God Almighty!

So what do we have here? A scene beyond our human understanding, majesty, might, power. This is our God, Almighty, holy, pure, awesome in His splendour.

Holy, holy, holy is The Lord God Almighty! Amen!
