The Lamb and the 144,000
Then I looked, and there on Mount Zion stood the Lamb, and with Him were 144,000 who had His name and Father's name written on their foreheads. I heard a sound from heaven like the sound of cascading waters and like the rumbling of loud thunder. The sound I heard was also like harpists playing on their harps. They sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders but no one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. These are the ones not defiled with women, for they have kept their virginity. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes. They were redeemed from the human race as the first fruits for God and the Lamb. No lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless. Revelation 14:1-5
Are these the 144,000 from Chapter 7? This scene is in heaven, the group is taken from the earth. The scripture above does not indicate they are Jews. If they are not the first 144,000 who are they?
The above text indicates a few things:
They had His name and His Father's name on their foreheads
They were morally pure
They were totally obedient and followed the Lamb wherever He went
They were redeemed from the human race, the mass of humanity.
They tell the truth
They live blameless lives
There is a possibility that these 144,000 are another group of people who had committed their lives totally to God, much like the apostle Paul, who remained single, morally pure and totally devoted to our God but not specifically Jews.
144,000 in a number of governmental completeness. As we see God use certain numbers repetitively for different scenarios we can safely assume this may be another such instance.
How blessed are these. They, and they alone sing a new song, which only they know. This is a special group of people. They have given their lives for their Lord and have steadfastly followed Him, stayed true and lived blamelessly.
This calls to me to walk worthy of the life God has called me to, keep a pure heart and be totally obedient. Amen!
