The Woman Persecuted

When the dragon saw that he had been thrown to earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the man child. The woman was given two wings of a great eagle, so that she could fly from the serpent's presence to her place in the wilderness, where she was fed for a time, times, and a half time. From his mouth the spewed water like a river flowing after the woman, to sweep her away in a torrent. But the earth helped the woman. The earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the river that the dragon had spewed from his mouth. So the dragon was furious with the woman and left her to wage war against the rest of her offspring- those who keep God's commands and have the testimony about Jesus. He stood on the sand of the sea. Revelation 12:13-18

Satan is enraged because he can no longer come before the throne and accuse. Perhaps while ever he could remain in the heavenlies he had a false sense of security or power. He had been demoted and he is angry.

I rejoice for the Lamb has taken authority and the liar has been cast out. Praise God!

The Lord's people have always been a subject of persecution by this enemy. Now believing Jews will be targeted but to his frustration they are given wings of eagles to escape and be hidden for 3 1/2 years.  Go God!

Desperate to punish they that belong to the Lamb he turns his attention to the Gentiles who have come to faith during the tribulation.  Lord have mercy!

We can only speculate what the nature of the water the dragon spewed out of his mouth, suffice to say he was thwarted in his attempt to show his strength and authority.
