Fasting

Then Jesus returned from the Jordan, full of the Holy Spirit, and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness for 40 days to be tempted by the Devil. He ate nothing during those days, and when they were over He was hungry. The Devil said to Him, "if you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread." But Jesus answered him, "it is written: man must not live on bread alone but on every word of God." Luke 4:1-4

I am grateful Jesus did not fail this test. However, He had spent 30 years developing a character that would stand the test of this enemy. Jesus loved the word of God and being very hungry was just a temporary moment in time, whereas His whole life had been one of submission to the Word of God. Also His future was emerging and when this test, and the following two were over He would go forth in the power of the Holy Spirit to do great and mighty things.

In times of fasting and the hunger pangs come I remind myself that it is the revelation about the Word of God that I seek and i know my God is well able to bring me through.

Fasting creates breakthrough. Revelation sought is found. It is a pity we give it less time. It is a powerful weapon in our arsenal of Godly weapons.

If I am failing to break through a wall of opposition, fasting helps. If I am failing to understand, fasting helps. If I am desperate for God, fasting helps. If I am wanting to see the Kingdom of God come in my world, fasting helps.

I cannot live as a Christian and be bound with the same constraints that unbelievers face, my God is greater. I cannot submit to failure, illness, poverty and accept this as normal. My God has a big G in His name, He is not just, a god, He is The GOD! Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father waiting for His enemies to be made His footstool. We are involved in this!
