Enemies in the Midst
The walls were completed in 52 days, on the 25th day of the month of Elul. When all our enemies heard this, all the surrounding nations were intimidated and lost their confidence, for they realised that this task had been accomplished by our God.
During these days, the nobles of Judah sent many letters to Tobiah, and Tobiah's letters came to them. For many in Judah were bound by oath to him, since he was a son-in-law of Shecaniah son of Arah, and his son Jehohanan had married the daughter of Meshullam son of Berechiah. These nobles kept mentioning Tobiah's good deeds to me, and they reported my words to him. And Tobiah sent letters to intimidate me. Nehemiah 6: 15-19
Nehemiah completed the wall in 6 months, this icluded the time he took in travelling from Susa to Jerusalem. In this time he was able to harness the workforce, keep them encouraged, defeat his enemies and complete the task.
How amazing that he accomplished all this in such a short time. What focus! What determination! What strength from God!
I love how God chooses a man, He is good indeed.
Even after the task was completed he is made aware of the reason his enemy knew his every move, he had informers in the midst, those related to Tobiah. These men tried to convince Nehemiah that his enemy was indeed a good man, what fools!
Ever had this? I have! It is draining to have people, who should be discerning and know better, belittle your stance all because they have mistaken loyalties. These people should be avoided or marginalised.
Nehemiah was wise to strengthen himself in The Lord. Amen!
