Hezekiah's Prayer
Hezekiah took the letter from the hand of the messengers, read it, then went up to the Lord's temple, and spread it out before The Lord. Then Hezekiah prayed before The Lord:
"Lord God of Israel who is enthroned above the cherubim, You are Gid- You alone- of all the kingdoms of the earth. You made the heavens and the earth. listen closely, Lord, and hear; open Your eyes, Lord, and see. Hear the words that Senna he rib has sent to mock the living God. lord, it is true that the kings of Assyria have devastated the nations and their lands. They have thrown their gods into the fire, for they were not gods but made with human hands- wood and stone, so they have destroyed them, now, Lord our God, please save us from his hand so that all e kingdoms of the earth may know that You are The Lord God - You alone."
Then the son of Amos sent a message to Hezekiah: "The Lord, the God of Israel says: "I have heard your prayer to Me about Sennacherib king of Assyria." 2Kings 19:14-20
Hezekiah loved The Lord and purposes in his heart to honour and serve The Lord his God. When surrounded by an enemy who mocked his God, Hezekiah went to The Lord with the letter Sennacherib sent. He knew he did not have the manpower or strength to outsmart Sennecherib but he knew someone who did.
When faced by huge problems we can worry and fret; work ourselves to death in trying to solve the problem or rest in God and trust Him to prevail. It makes logical sense to rest and trust our God.
However, we tend to get all lathered for nothing. Much smarter to know how to rest, so that when trials come we have it down pat, rest that is. Amen!
