Prayer For Protection

Be gracious to me, God, be gracious to me, for I take refuge in You.
I will seek refuge in the shadow of Your wings until danger passes. I call to God Most High, to God who fulfils His purpose for me. Psalm 57:1-3

David wrote this prayer when he had to escape Saul who was pursuing him to kill him.

God had anointed David and yet an evil spirit in Saul wished to kill David.

David needed to cling to The Lord, burrow deep into His protective arms and trust Him because all natural indications told him he would die.

As a Christian I know I have an enemy who hates me and continually seeks to destroy me. Whether my enemy has skin on or is invisible he is still there and his malevolence is a patent threat. At times I feel his sulphurous breath on my neck but I have a weapon David did not recognise as his sword, the word of God. 'No weapon formed against you shall prosper and you will refute any accusation raised against you in court. This is the heritage of the Lord's servants, and their righteousness is from Me.' Isaiah 54:17

At times like this we need to know that The Lord is our strength and shield and not just hope He comes through. We know Him as we spend time with Him and allow Him to speak to us. Prayer is where this happens. Amen!
