Holy Spirit Preaching
Paul and his companions set sail from Laphos and came to Pergamum in Pamphylia. John, however, left them and went back to Jerusalem. They continued their journey from Pergamum and reached Antioch in Pisidia. On the Sabbath day they went into the synagogue and sat down. After the reading of the Law and the Prophets, the leaders of the synagogue sent word to them, saying, "Brothers, if you have any message of encouragement for the people, you can speak." Then Paul stood up..." Acts 13:13-16
What Paul had to say is an interesting read and I highly recommend it. However, it is too long to re-write in this blog. Suffice to say Paul began to preach and he did quite well.
Preaching is also a gift of the Holy Spirit, although not directly named (neither is evangelism). When a man or woman is gifted by the Holy Spirit to preach their words bring life and illumination. It is said that Billy Graham had that gift, his words drew people to Jesus. I notice that his son Franklin has just conducted a crusade about the prodigal son in Thailand and thousands upon thousands came and thousands were saved. Franklin rebelled in his younger years but now he carries his father's mantle, praise God.
Reinhard Bonke preaches in Africa and he sees millions come to hear his message and many many people are saved as a result. He also has a younger man to carry on his work as Reinhard is now in his 70s and although he still preaches he is making room.
To be able to preach the word of God you have to read it and love it. I love the word of God and although I cannot memorise as I have seen TD Jakes, another great preacher, when I need the scripture it is there. I have to rely on the Holy Spirit for the detail.
To affect others we need to know our God and how we get to know our God is through bible study. As we read and devote ourselves to the task we grow and we can be a person of influence. Amen!
