Real Power
A man named Simon had previously practised sorcery in that city and astounded the Samaratin people, while claiming to be somebody great.they all paid attention to him, from the least of them to the greatest, and they said, "this man is called the Great Power of God!" They were attentitive to him because he had astounded them with his sorceries for a long time. But when they believers Philip, as he preached the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptised. Then even Simon himself believed. After he was baptized, he went around constantly with Philip and was astounded as he observed the signs and great miracles that were being performed. Acts 8:9-13
Simon was used to being the center of attention throug sorcery. Yet Philip was something else. He preached freedom and cast out demons and healed the sick. Simon had only ever put people in bondage.
It is interesting that the people had thought that Simon was 'the Great Power of God' before they knew the true power of God.
Before we come to Christ we will be amazed at clairvoyants and spiritists but when we come to Christ and experience His freedom we know the difference. Jesus cleans us on the inside the clairvoyants control us through their ability to know what we do not know.
The word of God sets us free, gives us direction and guidance, it does not control us. We do not need to read our stars for as we read our bibles and are set free we see our lives take a whole new direction and life begins.
Jesus said: "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, no man comes to the Father but by Me." John. 14:6
There is no other name under which men must be saved. Acts 4:12
