Stoned For Christ
Then some Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, and when they has won over the crowds and stoned Paul, they dragged him out of the city, thinking he was dead. After the disciples surrounded him, he got up and went into the town. The next day he left with Barabas to Derbe. Acts 14:19,20
Paul was stoned with stones not drugs or alcohol. This was no self-induced state. Paul was passionate about preaching the gospel and laying down his life for that cause. The Jews hated him for threatening their religion and winning souls. They were envious about the power of the gospel and the truth it held.
Being stoned would not be an easy burden to bear. How many would now give up? How many would now be filled with rage and resentment?
The fact that Paul got up and walked back into the town was a miracle. The fact that he wanted to go back into the town was a miracle.
What motivated Paul? What was his passion? The gospel compelled him and drove him to go where he would find the lost. No cushy home for Paul with a safe job and position in society. He had counted all as lost so that he might gain Christ. (Philippians 3:8)
A different attitude and priority! Amen!
