Transformed Minds
Peter went up to pray on the housetops about noon. Then he became hungry and wanted to eat, but while they were preparing something, he went into a visionary state. He saw heaven open and an object that resembled a large sheet coming down, being lowered by its four corners to the earth. In it were all four footed animals and reptiles of the earth, and the birds of the sky. Then a voice said to him, "Get up Peter, kill and eat!"
"No Lord!" Peter said, "Lord, I have never eaten anything common and ritually 'unclean'!
Again, a second time a voice said to him, "What God has made clean, you must not call common." This happened three times, and then the sheet was taken up into heaven. Acts 10:9-14
The Holy Spirit was preparing Peter to minister to a Gentile. The Jews considered Gentiles outside, that salvation was from the Jews. Peter's response to the animals he considered as unclean and as a good Jewish boy, would not eat.
The lessons Peter learns seem to come in threes. When Jesus was wanting to restore Peter after he had denied Jesus, Jesus gave three times.
Each of us learn differently and often it has to do with our upbringing. We are conditioned to think a certain way because that is how we are taught or moulded. However, the Holy Spirit has a freedom for us that is on a whole new plane. To grasp His thinking we have to first be willing, second be hungry and third be persistent in our seeking of truth.
The problem for Peter is that he was raised to believe that as a Jew he had it all, all truth that is. Now the Holy Spirit is opening his mind to new thinking.
When we become born again we need to change our thinking from where we have been to where we are now. In the book of Romans we are told: become a new person by changing the way you think. Romans 12:2
In our walk as a Christian seek God and His thinking instead of your own old ways and you will be changed. As you are changed you will experience joy that only He can give. Amen!
