A Wonder

Then God said, "let there be an expanse between the waters, separating water from water." So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above the expanse. And it was so. God called the expanse 'sky.' Evening came and then morning: the second day. Genesis 1:6:8

As I read this I am in wonder. To be there watching the Spirit of God speak to a large watery planet and tell the elements to separate, what a wonder, what power, what a miracle.

To be able to wonder is important. Children can wonder and imagine yet they become shaped over the years to 'behave' and in 'behaving' they can lose this wonder.

Yesterday I saw this in action and I can not lay blame, as I have done it myself. Adults like children to be seen and not heard. We want them to play together and not fight and when they fail to do it we intervene, often crossly.

My daughter and grandchildren came to visit. The children went into the pool and begged me to go with them. Initially I refused, wanting to be an adult and talk to my daughter, but things did not go well in the pool and fights ensued. Finally, I did what I was asked, originally, and went into the pool and created games which brought order out of chaos, a bit late however. My daughter was all for taking the children home but I asked that they remain and she went shopping with her husband.

The children and I had fun together. We were now out of the pool, the children were being disciplined. We had lunch and then I taught them a game that I told them their mummy loved to play and that they could play with her.

I am awake at 3 in the morning praying for my grandchildren. I pray they grow up in wonder, wonder of a God who is awesome to behold. A God who brings order out of chaos, a God who is there for them when they are alone, unhappy and frustrated.

I am mindful that I must be a 'Mary Poppins' in their world, teaching them the whys of life, helping them to discover wonder in he ordinary, helping to retain the child but understand how to behave in an adult world without losing the creative. (A challenge, but not an impossibility)

I love my grandchildren and am reminded I have a God who loves them more than I do. He has something special for each of them in their future and I want to encourage them to find His purpose not one society drums into them.

You may have had your wonder removed and do not know where to find it. Seek The Lord, ask him to come and return your innocent wonder! it is there buried deep inside! it is not lost! it is just covered with layers of cobwebs. When you find it use it to look at Him and discover how awesome He is. Amen!
