Fruitful
Then God said, "let the waster swarm with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky." So God created the large sea creatures that moves and swarms in the water, according to their kinds. He also created every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. So God blessed them, "be fruitful, multiply, and fill the waters of the seas, and let the birds multiply on the earth." Evening came and then morning: the fifth day. Genesis 1:20-23
When I decide to create something, even if it is a cake, I dream about it, see how it will look, then break it down to ingredients, measures, timings, containers etc.
As I think about these verses I am fully aware that God spent time, perhaps centuries dreaming and patiently designing the various fish and birds. When I look at what He has created, they are not callously, casually or coldly created. They, each one, are intricately designed. The look, the habits, the food they would eat, the way they would live and recreate. Our God is patient and very detailed. The colours and hues, the natures, the song, beautiful!
As I walk I see: tiny finches, colourful rosellas, galahs, kookaburras, pigeons, laurakeets, sparrows; each different, unique and special. Each crafted by a loving God.
He not only created them, He gave them ability to reproduce and be fruitful.
I am created to re-produce and be fruitful. My child-bearing days are over but still I bear children with what I impart to others. I am made in His image and He creates and matures what He creates, so do I.
We are made in His image and have a purpose greater than producing children and moving on. We are responsible for our part in the world we find ourselves in. What will you do in the year to come that will make a difference. Who will you mentor? Who will you grow?
