Light of Love
Then God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night. They will serve as signs for festivals and for days and years. They will be lights in the expanse of the sky to provide light on the earth." And it was so. God made the two great lights- the greater light to have dominion over the day and the lesser light to have dominion over the. Ight- as well as the stars. God placed them in the expanse of the sky to provide light on the earth, to dominate the day and the night, to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. Evening came and then morning: the fourth day. Genesis 1:14-19
What a day! Up until now there was nothing to say there was a day, as we know it. There had not been a sun or moon. Imagine no stars, sun or moon! Emptiness, no light, nothing. For all the Big Bang buffs here it was. Did God clap his hands and cause the sun, moon, stars and planets to be born? Perhaps! Perhaps He merely spoke it into being. What a wonder! Oh to have been there!
Because we now know, we are so clever, that the universe, so huge, so very huge, was involved. Not a mere sun, and a single moon, many many suns, planets, moons, stars all for us. Why there could have been a little earth and one sun and one moon, but why so many? How generous is this God? Our earth is barely a speck in the oceans of stars, planets and galaxies, why they go on and on and on. Perhaps all the way to His door. Why we are connected with dazzling beauty. What a wedding gift, what a bestowal of love, a preparation for us, us who are made out of dirt. What love is this?
The expanse mentioned in this scripture could not contain the sun and the moon. The expanse, our atmosphere, can merely see our sun and moon for they are so glorious, they are outside the expanse.
God knew, He placed within us, wonder. He created all this so we would wonder, discover. We have so much to discover and in discovering it we find Him. The love that holds it all together.
Today is His day, honour Him and worship Him, for He deserves it. Love on Him, enjoy His presence and stay in the wonder, the wonder of His love. (Joy to the World- carol)
