His Promise
Abram was 86 years old when Hagar bore Ishmael to him.
When Abram was 99 years old The Lord appeared to him, saying, "I am God Almighty. Live by my presence and be blameless. I will establish My covenant between Me and you, and I will multiply you greatly."
Then Abram fell face down and God spoke with him: "As for Me, My covenant is with you: you will become the father of many nations. Your name will no longer be Abram, but your name will be Abraham, for I will make you the father of many nations. I will make you extremely fruitful and will make nations and kings from you. I will keep My covenant between Me and you, and your future offspring throughout their generations, as an everlasting covenant to be your God and the God of your offspring after you. And to your future offspring I will give the land where you are residing-all the land of Canaan-as an eternal possession, and I will be their God." Genesis 16:16-17;1-8
I want to look at a few things in this passage:
1) Live by My presence and be blameless. This is possible and still true today. As we walk in the spirit we do not fulfil the lusts of the flesh. If I try in my own efforts I am frustrated and fail but as I walk in His power, all things are possible.
2)God has made us a promise and He is faithful to complete it. We can trust Him. We cannot control Him and His timing is His own. No matter how old we feel, how incapacitated, how troubled by doubts and fears, He has a plan and as I speak His plan and release Him, it comes to pass.
3) God gave Abram a new name and that new nae confessed God's promise into being. God had promised Abram a multitude of offspring and his new name: Abraham, meant Father of a multitude.
