Sin and Separation

Then the man and his wife heard the sound of The Lord God walking in the garden at the time of the evening breeze, and they hid themselves from The Lord God among the trees of the garden. So The Lord God called out to the man and said to him, "Where are you?"
And he said, "I heard You in the garden and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid."
"Then He asked, "who told you that you were naked? Did you eat from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?"
Then the man replied, "The woman You gave to be with me- she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it."
So The Lord God asked the woman, "What is this you have done?"
And the woman said, "It was the serpent. He deceived me, and I ate it."Genesis 3:8-13

What a devastation! To suddenly fear the One who spent every evening walking in the garden in fellowship with you.

Adam and Eve knew evil, they had sinned, accepting the first evil from the serpent. Sin makes you feel ashamed. Adam and Eve now were naked in spirit. They had already make themselves clothing but still hid. Why? There was sin in their lives.

Sin cut them off from life and soon would keep them from the garden of life.

Adam and Eve were to die. It would take hundreds of years for the lack of life in the garden to take it's toll but they would now live and die apart from The Lord. Sin had separated them.

The scripture does not tells us that they found repentance. Repentance cleanses. To live without repentance is difficult indeed because the stain of sin is heavy. I know I lived with it for 19 years before I came to Christ.

Repentance is found in relationship. I knew about God, went to church but until I invited Him into my life and became one in relationship I was an outsider to His grace.

Adam and Eve had relationship and lost it through their sin. Through Christ we have the access to forgiveness of sin. We do not need to live cut off from a relationship with God, all we need is repentance. Amen!
