The Path of Salvation
After Lot separated from him, The Lord said to Abram, "Look from the place where you are. Look North and South, east and west, for I will give you and your descendants forever all the land you see. I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count he dust of the earth, then your offspring can be counted. Get up and walk around the land, through its length and width, for I will give it to you.
So Abram moved his tent and went to live near the oaks of Mamre at Hebron, where he built an altar to The Lord. Genesis 13:14-18
Abram had just settled land on Lot yet that same land God was giving to him. However, Abram got up and moved his tents to Hebron at the oaks of Mamre where he first built an altar to The Lord. What was the significance of this place? As Abram had travelled from his father's land into the land The Lord has called him to, this was the first place where The Lord appeared to Abram and told him He was giving him all the land. This was the starting point. Perhaps returning to his point has significance in a new beginning or perhaps it was a good place to live as we are told Abram actually settled here, along with Isaac his future son.
It is good to remember where we first met The Lord. This week the youth from my church are away on a camp. My first Christian camp was where I really opened up to The Lord and was baptised in the Holy Spirit without even knowing what it was. I have fond memories of this time. How good it was. So refreshing to my soul. My spirit was made alive.
Our first experience in God is often the purest and most passionate, it was for me. At long last I found the One I had sought for 19 years. What joy!
I would like to throw in a challenge. Salvation, sozo, is an on-going experience. As we read about Abram we see he is having an awakening to God. Our experience is just that. Each day He brings a new part of Himself for us to discover. How good is that? The sad thing is when we are too busy or distracted by other things to notice. That's when we begin to die when we forget to eat from the tree of life, Jesus. Amen!
