A Spirit of Deception

When Isaac was old and his eyes were so weak that he could not see, he called his older son Esau and said to him, "My son." And he answered, "Here I am." He said, "look I am old and do not know the day of my death. Take your hunting gear, your quiver and bow, and go out into the field to hunt some game for me. Then make me a delicious meal that I love and bring it to me to eat, so that I can bless you before I die."
Now Rebekah was listening to what Isaac said to his son Esau. So while Esau went to the field to hunt some game to bring in, Rebekah said to her son Jacob, "Listen! I heard your father talking with your brother Esau, he said, 'bring m some game and make a delicious meal for me to eat so that I can bless you.' Now obey every order I give you my son. Go to the flock and bring me two choice young goats, and I will make them into a delicious meal for your father- the kind he loves. Then take it to your father to eat so he may bless you before he dies." Genesis 27:1-10

Jacob inherited his mother's wiley ways and in obeying her he deceived his father into blessing him, instead of Esau. The deception angered his brother and arsau had sworn to kill him as soon as his father passed away. This caused Jacob to flee. Yet God had a plan. Isaac wanted a good wife for Jacob and instructed him to go back to Rebekah's brother's house to find a wife.

When Jacob goes to laban's house we see the source of deception. Laban was also a deceiver. So Rebekah and Laban, both out of the same house, were deceives. The sin of deception ran in the family and down to Jacob. Do you see similar weaknesses in families? Critical spirits, negative spirits, angry spirits are a few more common, so is sexual uncleanness.

What can be done about this? Deal with yourself honestly! I have had to pray and ask The Lord for His mercy and grace, His power is great to save. I cannot save myself, for if I do I boast and then fall into sin again.
