God's Credentials

Then God spoke to Moses, telling him, " I am Yahweh. I appeared to Abrham, Isaac and Jacob as God Almighty, but I did not reveal my name Yahweh to them. I also established My covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, the land they lived in as foreigners. Furthermore, I have heard the groanings of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are forcing to work as slaves, and I have remembered My covenant.
Therefore tell the Israelites: I am Yahweh, and I will deliver you from the forced labour of the Egyptians and free you from slavery to them. I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and great acts of judgement. I will take you as My people, and I will be your God. You will know that I am Yahweh your God, who delivered you from the forced labour of the Egyptians. I will bring you to the land that I swore to give Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and I will give it to you as a possession. I am Yahweh." Moses told this to the Israelites, but they did not listen to him because of their broken spirit and hard labour. Exodus 6:2-9

God has waited to reveal His name to the large mass of Israelites under Moses. I wonder why? Why did He not tell Abraham? Perhaps this was not as relevant but if I remember correctly Jacob did ask and was told: " what's it to you!" (my paraphrase) Why the mystery?

Moses and the Israelites finally have a name for their God. The first part of an introduction is: ' Hi! My name is............ We then proceed to say what we do and if we are in a sale situation, what we can do for you. So here, God was establishing His identity as a god and more so as GOD over all.

God is waiting to reveal Himself to us as God, Lord, saviour, provider, counsellor, comforter. He is more than saviour, more than a powerful ally, He is a personable, relational God! Amen!

Little Things Grow

The boy's mother said to Elisha, "as The Lord lives and you yourself live, I will not leave you. So he got up and followed her. 2 Kings 4:30 The Shunamite woman had travelled to Mt Carmel to find Elisha after the death of her son. Although Elisha had sent his servant Gehazi to the boy with his staff the woman had come to find Elisha and was not leaving without him. I like this lady's spirit. I am sure The Lord God Almighty also valued her heart. She had a heart for God and made room for Him in her world. Now, having lost her son she knew what to do: find Elisha and not let him go until he came to restore her son. What made the Shunamite woman believe that Elisha could raise her son? Was it the same faith that made her provide him a place to stay in her home? I believe it was God working in her life. I am grateful for her faith, I can read and be encouraged.
