Preparation and Launch

Meanwhile, Moses was shepherding the flock of his father-in-law Jethro's, the priest of Midian. He led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. Then the angel of The Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire within a bush. As Moses looked, he saw that the bush was on fire but was not consumed. So Moses thought: I must go over and look at this remarkable sight. Why isn't the bush burning up?"
When The Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called out to him from the bush, "Moses, Moses!"
"Here I am," he answered.
"Do not come closer, " He said, "Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground." Then He continued, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." Exodus 3:1-6

He's back! The God who walked with the patriarchs reappears and Moses is the next man with whom God  forms a relationship. Although Joseph was a godly man and used by God to take the Israelites into Egypt, we do not see in the scriptures that God walked with him in relationship. God has just said to Moses, "I am the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob." Each of these former men knew God and had a relationship with him. Why was Joseph not mentioned?

I love the fact that Moses has spent some years now in Jethro's house. Jethro was a priest. I imagine that Moses would have learned about God under Jethro. Jethro would have taught Moses the godly history. Perhaps Moses wrote all this down during this time. Moses had been raised in Pharoah's palace and would have learned to write there. He was now living in Jethro's house and would have learned what to write there.

The time for action had come, Moses was about to be sent to do what God had always intended him to do, set His people free. To this date he had shepherded sheep, he was about to shepherd people.

Mt Horeb means desolation, it is apparently also another name for Sinai. This mountain plays a role in the exodus of God's people. God is full of patterns. He lays down a layer of experience then another on top. How good is that! Amen!
