A Cool Head

So Moses returned to The Lord and said, "Oh, these people have committed a grave sin; they have made a god of gold for themselves. Now if You would only forgive their sin. But if not, please erase me from the book You have written." The Lord replied to Moses: "I will erase whoever has sinned against ame from My book. Now go, lead the people to the place I told you about; see, My angel will go before you. But on the day I settle accounts, I will hold them accountable for their sin. And The Lord inflicted a plague on the people for what they did with the calf Aaron had made. Exodus 32:31-35

Moses had come down the mountain, after being with God for 40 days and nights with the Ten Commandments in his hands. Although God had warned him about what was happening and wanted to kill them all, Moses had pleaded for their lives. Yet when Moses saw what was happening he became angry and ordered the slaying of those involved. Three thousand died.

I wonder if he, when he went back up the mountain and asked God for mercy for the people and offering himself as a substitute, was remorseful for his own actions? I imagine he would have been, I would have been. When the heat goes out of anger and we look at how we behaved when angry we regret, even if those offenders deserved a spanking.

I know we all vent and if unable to vent and gain a level head we inflict our rage on others. It is better to vent to a sensible, level headed individual, one who will not condone our behaviour or defend the behaviour of others but understand and in their understanding diffuse our anger. I have such a friend. Today I called her about something completely different, not intending to vent but struggling with unreasonable and unfair expectations of others. I knew I would follow the Lord's way, that was not in doubt but I needed to deal with my emotion. What a good, godly friend. Thank you Leslie.

God had provided the answer to Moses. He was about to repay, much better than Moses could ever do. In my situation I know my God is better at justice and vengeance than I and He will take care of tha,t but in the mean time I have to go to Him in faith for the provision to pay the unreasonable men what they demand. I had just stepped out in faith and paid my tithe, in the face of expenses. I now say: I have more than enough, it is already there, my God has provided. Amen!

I am excited because now I will see the goodness of my God. He is more than able, He is faithful, He never fails. Amen!
