Belonging, Protection and Giving
The Lord spoke to Moses: "when you take a cencus if the Israelites to register them, each of the men must pay a ransom for himself to The Lord as they are registered. Then no plague will come on them as they are registered. Everyone who is registered must pay half a shekel according to the sanctuary shekel. This half a shekel is a contribution to The Lord. The wealthy may not give more and the poor may not give less than half a shekel when giving the contribution when giving to The Lord to atone for your lives. Take the atonement money from the Israelites and use it for the service of the tent meeting. It will be a reminder for the Israelites before te Lord to atone for you lives." Exodus 30:11-16
This register was probably a military register. I appreciate that this levy was an equal levy, All men are equal before The Lord.
It is amazing that being registered and paying the levy protected them all from disease. How cool is that?
Being a part of the family meant protection from disease. Being a part of the family required equal sacrifice. This is good!
Do you belong to a church family? If you do, do you pay you tithe? Funding the church cannot be left to the few. Equal benefit requires equal sacrifice. Amen!
