Blessing Through Obedience
If you faithfully follow my statutes and faithfully observe My commands, I will give you rain at the right time, and the land will yield its produce, and the trees of the filed will bear their fruit. Your threshing will continue until grape harvest, and the rape harvest will continue until sowing time; you will have plenty of food to eat an live securely in your land. I will give peace to your land, and you will lie down with nothing to frighten you. I will remove dangerous animals from the land, and no sword will pass through your land. You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall before you by the sword by the sword. Five of you will pursue 100, and 100 of you will pursue 10,000; your enemies will fall before you by the sword. I will turn to you, make you fruitful and multiply you, and confirm my covenant with you. You will eat the old grain of the previous year and will clear out the old to make room for the new. I will place my residence among you, and I will not reject you. I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people. I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, so that you would no longer be their slaves. I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to live in freedom. Leviticus 26:3-13
What a beautiful promise! If we do not make idols for ourselves.
If I am truly honest I attempt to make an idol of myself, a self-righteous idol, a why I am so good, I am faithful, I am, I am, I am. I have made it a practise of having people over for lunch each Sunday after church. As we were speaking today a part of me was sitting back listening to the words of my mouth. Subtle little inferences on my own goodness, yuk! It goes without saying, that if I am the good girl. someone else is the baddie, yes? But, really, self-righteousness is the baddie, and silly me for allowing it room.
Romans 3:10-18 'There is no one righteous, not even one.
there is no one who understands, there is no one who seeks God.
All have turned away; all alike have become useless.
There is no one who does what is good, not even one.
Their throat is an open grave; the deceive with their tongues.
Viper's venom is under their lips.
their mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.
their feet are swift to shed blood;
ruin and wretchedness are in their paths, and the path of peace they have not known.
Their is no fear of God before their eyes.
verse 21: 'but apart form the law God's righteousness has been revealed, that is God's righteousness through faith in Jesus Christ.'
So, the only righteousness I can lay claim to is that given to me by my faith in Jesus Christ.
In other words I am good, because of Him, I am right, because of Him. He did it all. there is nothing I can do! Amen! Except believe and give Him the glory.
