Other gods

For My angel will go before you to the land of the Ammorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites and Jebusites, and I will wipe them out. You must not bow down to their gods or worship them. Instead demolish them and smash their sacred pillars to pieces. Worship The Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. I will remove illness from you. No woman will miscarry it be childless in your land. I will give you the full number of days. Exodus 23:23-26

Here is a promise indeed! The only requirement was to worship The Lord only and have no other gods before Him. Does not sound hard, but how hard is it?

I can go to church and still worship other gods: my fitness regime; my disciplined savings; my right to watch certain things on TV and woe betide  anyone who gets in the way; my religious attitude; my love for punctuality.

These are but a few that you may gasp at. Let's test them all: is God master? Who gets the glory? Who do you put down?

Ok? If all things do not come out of God, inspired and maintained by God then they are all propping up your own 'god complex.' In other words you are really your own god. Welcome to the 21st century!

What can he done? Give it all to Him, give more, allow Him to mess with your programmes. Amen!

Little Things Grow

The boy's mother said to Elisha, "as The Lord lives and you yourself live, I will not leave you. So he got up and followed her. 2 Kings 4:30 The Shunamite woman had travelled to Mt Carmel to find Elisha after the death of her son. Although Elisha had sent his servant Gehazi to the boy with his staff the woman had come to find Elisha and was not leaving without him. I like this lady's spirit. I am sure The Lord God Almighty also valued her heart. She had a heart for God and made room for Him in her world. Now, having lost her son she knew what to do: find Elisha and not let him go until he came to restore her son. What made the Shunamite woman believe that Elisha could raise her son? Was it the same faith that made her provide him a place to stay in her home? I believe it was God working in her life. I am grateful for her faith, I can read and be encouraged.
