Restitution
The Lord spoke to Moses: "when someone sins and offends the Lord by deceiving his neighbour in regard to a deposit, a security, or a robbery; or defrauds his neighbour; or finds something lost and lies about it; or swears falsely about any of the sinful things a person may do- once he has sinned and acknowledged his guilt-he must return what he stole or defrauded, or the deposit entrusted to him, or the lost item found, or anything else about which he swore falsely.
He must make full restitution for it and add a fifth of its value to it. He is to pay the owner on the day he acknowledges his guilt. Then he must bring his restitution offering to the Lord. Leviticus 6:1-6
What a good law! If thieves knew that they had to pay back what they stole and add 1/5 to it, I wonder if they would be so keen to steal?
In Tamworth, where I live, at present the villains are becoming brazen. They are no longer concerned if the owner is at home, they still break in and steal what they want.
At times they harm the elderly, lately a 95 year old was attached with a piece of wood from their door that the thieves broke off when they broke in. The elderly gentleman still took them to task. I admire him!
Oh to be able to enforce such a law! On top of that to have to make an offering to the Lord, what a good idea! Respect would be restored.
If we started with our children, that would smarten them up, yes?
Imagine law-makers allowing such a practice? I like the Singapore way: villains get a whipping with a cane!
You can see I am in for corporal punishment.
However, my children discipline their children in a different way. Occasionally they get the stick but more often it is: 'hands together and sit in the corner', until they are ready to repent, or hand on your mouth, until they gain self-control, then they can speak.
