Seeing God

Then God said to Moses, "Go up to The Lord , you and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and 70 of Israel's elders, and bow in worship at a distance. Moses alone is to approach The Lord, but the others are not to approach, and the people are not to go up with him.
Then Moses went up with Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and 70 of Israel's elders, and they saw the God of Israel. Beneath His feet was something like a pavement made of sapphire stone, as clear as the sky itself. God did not harm the Israelite nobles; they saw Him, and ate and drank. Exodus 24:11,2;9-11

Aaron, his sons and 70 elders saw God, ate and drank with Him. They had a God  encounter yet in chapter 32, because Moses was delayed on the mountain for 40 days and nights and the people came to Aaron asking for an image of their God, why did he craft a golden calf? Why not what he had seen?

This grieves me to think: a man chosen by God to be His priest, who sees His personhood, within 40 days goes back to images of a former life.

Yet this is what we do without His power within us we default back to sin. Oh wicked men that we are! How vile is sin!

Yet how good is our God? Jesus, the perfect man lay down His life for us ratbags. Why? Because He loved us!

What love is this? What manner of God is ours? What a saviour?

By His grace I am free, by His mercy I am clean and by His Holy Spirit I live, in Him. Amen!
