The First and Last
I am he Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the place of slavery.
Do not have other gods beside Me.
Do not make an idol in the shape of anything in the heavens above or on the earth below or in the waters under the earth, you must not bow down to them or worship them; for I, The Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the father's sin, to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing faithful love to a thousand generations of those who love Me, and keep My commands. Exodus 20:1-4
When men and women marry they vow to be faithful. Having an unfaithful spouse arouses jealousy, rage and resentment. When a spouse is unfaithful the injured spouse has the right to leave. Our God is a jealous God and demands faithfulness. Now, in ourselves we are prone to be more faithful to ourselves than to our God but as we rely on the Holy Spirit we are enabled.
Our God is not a figurehead, a nice idea, an occasional visitor. He wants all of us and does not like to share our affections with the world. We cannot decide to throw Him a crust and expect Him to be satisfied. If He is a consuming fire then why do we treat Him like a smoking candle?
When God finds someone faithful who puts Him first then He runs to us. Knowing Him is better than anything else that may be on offer. He is the first and last, the beginning and the end. Try consistently walking with Him, He is awesome! Amen!
