Where is Your God?

The entire Israelite community left the Wilderness of Sin, moving from one place to the next according to the Lord's command. They camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for people to drink. So the people complained to Moses, "Give us water to drink."
Then Moses cried out to The Lord , "What should I do with these people? In a little while they will stone me!"
The Lord answered Moses, "Go on ahead of the people and take some of the elders of Israel with you. Take the staff you struck the Nile with in your hand and go. I am going to stand in front of you on the rock at Horeb; when you hit the rock, water will come out of it in the sight of the elders of Israel. Exodus 17:1,2;4-6

Thirst can make you very cranky and the Israelites were cranky. Being in the desert was bad enough, eating Manna (which translated means 'what?' In other words: 'what the heck is this?') for 40 years, trudging around in the heat without a decent bath or shower (smelly), yes definitely enough to make you grouchy.

However, God was wanting to develop faith in Him and a desire for relationship. It was not happening. Moses was ready to hit the sheep on the head, God wasn't far behind. However, God provided again, water came out of the rock. In this story we see God developing His credentials with Moses, the elders and the people. He was definitely their provider.

Now I must ask: is having God's provision enough for you to trust Him and believe in Him or do you expect it as a given?

God is more than a provider, He is friend, if we allow it, lover if we dare. Where are you?

He is leading me into fields of grace. As a child I loved to lie down in the clover and look up at the sky and look for pictures in the clouds. I love long grass, when I don't have to mow it, that is. I love fields of flowers.

In Tasmania, over in the north east, there are lavender farms, fields of lavender, a purple haze, beautiful.

Are you allowing your God to take you to such places or are you restricting Him to the narrow grind? Do you throw Him five minutes a day and expect Him to be happy? Be careful He can be like a rhinocerous in a china shop. Let Him loose! Amen!
