Greatest Command
"Listen, Israel: The Lord our God, The Lord is One. Love The Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. Deuteronomy 6:4,5
Today is Good Friday. This morning I went to a service on the highest mountain around Tamworth, a good message. Tonight I watched the news cover Hillsong Sydney's service, a nice change.
After this morning's service I went home and spent the day reading a book about the early church fathers. They were on fire for God, ready to be eaten alive, burned at the stake and crucified for their Lord. I read about the zealous missionaries who fronted barbarians with the gospel. The passion of Chris consumed them. They loved the Lord with all their hearts, souls and strength. They were singularly focused.
Tonight I watched the news and saw how far we have fallen away from this focus. We now consider it ok for sports teams to play on Good Friday. The early kings in England went around with the priests and bishops while they evangelized the country. When rebuked by the bishop the king fell before him in repentance. Now there is something worth seeing.
I enjoyed spending the day contemplating the Kingdom, it was refreshing and good for my soul. I plan to do it again tomorrow. It is good to stop and not be so programmed with activity that we fail to have time to think, read and reflect. It is good to remember Him. Amen!
