Keeping Vows
Moses told the leaders of the Israelite tribes, "This is what The Lord has commanded: when a man makes a vow to The Lord or swears an oath to put himself under an obligation, he must not break his word; he must do whatever he has promised." Numbers 30:1,2
We live in a world that changes the rules to suit circumstances. The biggie is to divorce because we don't love anymore. Yet we go further. We may agree to an arrangement with a friend or brother, say a living arrangement but when circumstances try us we renig on out agreement. This habit causes loss of love, resentment and judgement.
The world staggers under a load of resentment. If we train ourselves to keep our word, even to our own hurt we would do well.
Last week I had a client ask if they still had to pay break costs on a fixed interest loan if they paid it out early. My short answer was "Yes!" I then explained that they had made a contract with the provider of the finance to keep the contract to term. Someone's money was given on the understanding that they would receive regular income for that period of time, it could be a pensioner. To suit ourselves we cannot expect freedom to manipulate in order to suit us, no matter what our circumstances. This is where faith comes in.
If my God is in control then His plans are for my good and I must trust Him, above all else. Amen!
