Korah's Rebellion

Now Korah son of Izhar, son of Kohath, son of Levi, with Darhan and Abiram, sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth, sons of Rueben, took 250 prominent Israelite men who were leaders of the community and representatives in the assembly, and they rebelled against Moses. They came together against Moses and Aaron and told them, "You have gone too far! Everyone in the entire community is holy, and The Lord is among them. Why then do you exalt yourselves above the Lord's assembly?" Numbers 16:1-3

Korah and the Kohathites had a favoured status among the three Levites clans in handling the holy things of the tabernacle, but they desired greater glory.

Moses replied to Korah: " now listen, Levites! Isn't it enough for you that the God of Israel has separated you from the Israelite community to bring near to Himself, to perform the work at the Lord's tabernacle, and to stand before the community to minister to them? He has brought you near, and all your fellow Levites who are with you, but you seek the priesthood as well." Verses 8-10

The short story is that God judged Korah and his rebels, the ground opened up and swallowed them whole.

What caused Korah to rebel? I believe a couple of things:
1) he had fertile ground for the accusers lies about Moses and Aaron
2) he had inflated ideas about his role and worth
3) he failed to fear The Lord and know His ways

Korah had not long past seen God judge Miriam and Aaron for a similar sin. He learned nothing. Moses allowed God to judged Korah, he interceded for the community but not Korah.

Be warned: we have an enemy roaming around looking for someone to devour.
Don't feed the lions! Amen!
