The Jealousy Ritual

The Lord spoke to Moses: "Speak to the Israelites and tell them: If any man's wife goes astray, is unfaithful to him, and sleeps with another, but it is concealed from her husband, and she is undetected, even though she has defiled herself, since there is no witness against her, and she wasn't caught in the act; and if a feeling of jealousy comes over the husband and he becomes jealous because of his wife who has defiled herself-or if a feeling of jealousy comes over him and he becomes jealous of her though she has not defiled herself- then the man is to bring his wife to the priest.
The priest is to bring her forward and have her stand before the Lord. Then the priest is to take holy water in a clay bowl, and take some of the dust from the tabernacle floor and put it in the water. Numbers 5: 11-15; 16,17

The priest then has the woman take an oath and then the priest would proclaim: "If you have gone astray may your thigh shrivel and your belly swell", then the woman is to say: "Amen, amen!" then the woman is to drink the bitter water. If she is clean, nothing would happen but if she had sinned then those very things would take place.

I wonder if they did the same to the men? It would be a good cure-all for both, save on counselling, marital strife and divorce perhaps.

It is interesting that God had a way of solving so many things that were bound to take place, simply and permanently.

So much money is lost and spent because of jealousy. So much pain is caused because of jealousy, especially needless jealousy. Not good!

Our God is a jealous God, so He understood jealousy, thus He makes a way to solve jealousy. He did not need such rituals because He is in the secret place, He sees and knows well the heart of mankind.
