Who is it Who Blesses Me?

"He fed you in the wilderness with manna that your fathers had not known, in order to humble you and test you, so that in the end He might cause you to prosper. You may say to yourself, 'My power and my own ability have gained this wealth for me,' but remember that The Lord your God give you the power to gain wealth, in order to confirm His covenant He swore to your fathers, as it is today. If you forget The Lord your God and go after other gods to worship and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will perish." Deuteronomy 8:16-19

Prosperity carries it's own set of perils all tied up with business and ego. When the pressure is off a time of relaxation comes and with it the heady ideas: 'I have made it', 'wow! I must be special!', 'what am I going to do now? My next great conquest.' The worst of it is we are more impatient with those under us and become arrogant in our speech, condescending in attitude and a right embarrassment.

The beginning of all bad behaviour starts in our thinking. We have to guard our minds because the things we think become what we are. Proverbs says: as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.

Tonight I watch Australian Story: the Packer Family were highlighted.
James, the son of Kerry, admitted that business was good but his personal life is a mess. He has just had his second divorce. The Packers are one of Australia's most wealthy families but their personal lives are in tatters. Kerry, James' father was not a good role model. Who was James to learn from? His father was a good businessman but a poor husband and he struggled with fatherhood.

James is not alone in this struggle.

When we do things without The Lord, even as Christians, our world unravels and we lose our way and fail to put The Lord centre stage and make Him Lord of all. Amen!
