Rest, a Place of Grace
Therefore, while the promise to enter His rest remains, let us fear that none of you should miss it. For we also have received the good news just as the Jews did, but the message they heard did not benefit them, since they were not united with those who heard it in faith (for we who have believed enter the rest). Hebrews 4;1,2
God had a place of rest planned. Jesus did the work and won the prize, rest from striving to be good enough with God, rest in being right with the Father, rest taken by faith.
When I miss the mark and sin I can go to The Lord and be cleansed, not because I am good, but because He is good. At repentance all my sin is washed away. The stain is cleansed and there is no room for guilt.
Especially when I miss the mark I must have faith that Jesus' sacrifice was enough to cleanse me from all my sin. Apart from sin I can easily think I am being good. No! He keeps me, He sustains me and covers me by His grace which empowers me.
Yesterday was one if those days, I said something malicious and immediately was stricken and repented. I was horrified by what I had done. A good reminder that abiding in grace is the only place for me. Being horrified at our behavior can easily lead to guilt but faith demands I step into grace again, and stay there. Amen!
Rest is found in grace. Rest is free from guilt, condemnation, criticism and sin. Praise God for the finished work. Amen!
