The Basics

Now everyone who lives on milk us inexperienced with the message about righteousness, because he is an infant. But solid food is for the mature-for those whose senses have been trained to distinguish between good and evil.
Therefore, leaving the elementary message about the Messiah, let us go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, faith in God, teaching about ritual washings, laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgement. And we will do this if God permits. Hebrews 5:13-6:3

It is interesting what the author calls elementary teachings and how much is still being preached out of this area.

Ritual washings refers to baptism, just in case you were wondering.

There are 6 elements listed and they fall into three groups:
Repentance and faith
Baptism and laying on of hands
The good news of resurrection and eternal judgement.

I am still discovering more about faith, I continually press into God for more, yet what is referred to here is the basics. As a Christian we must appropriate all God has for us by faith. Christianity is not a set and forget state, it is active, it must be growing, otherwise we die and many are dying in the pews desperately needing to apprehend this basic truth. Scripture tells us that we must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Turning up to church out of religios duty is depriving us of life, there is so much more in Him. Amen!

The truth the Hebrews were failing to grasp was the priestly nature of Christ and what He had achieved on their behalf. A problem that is shared by many Christians. Our Jesus is not just a pretty picture, a statue, a name on a rosary bead, but a living, powerful Jesus who sets captives free, brings new life and changes the course of history.

We have mighty redeemer, one worth speaking about, one worth honouring with faith. Why put faith into what we touch and see? Why not call what is not into being and believe and stand in that believing until it comes to pass? This is the God we serve. He is visionary, faithful, mighty and glorious. So your vision is being tested, when the test is over it will be pure and undefiled and complete. Stand and see the salvation of our God! Amen!
