Judgement and Grace
For if we deliberately sin after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a terrifying expectation of judgement and the fury of a fire about to consume the adversaries. If anyone disregards Moses law, he dies without mercy, based on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much worse punishment do you think one will deserve who has trampled on the Son of God, regarded as profane the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and insulted the Spirit of Grace? For we know te One who has said, 'Vengeance belongs to Me, I will repay,' and again, 'the Lord will judge His people.' It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God! Hebrews 10:26-31
This passage could have been written by James, in fact the whole book sounds very Jamesish. The author then goes on te remind the readers that that had endured persecution for their faith and encourages them with: 'so don't throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done God's will, you may receive what was promised.' Hebrews 10:35,36
How could I throw away what I have with God? Paul tells us in Romans 8:31-39 that if God be for us who can be against us? Nothing can separate us from the love of God. Sure we may feel separated, forgotten, put aside, trampled on but He is still there, loving us.
Judgement is for deliberate, wilful sin. If you are like me you sin and repent quickly, not being able to bear the stain. This is not the sin the writer is talking about.
I know there are those who worry that they have committed the 'unforgivable sin', yet if thy are worried about sin then they surely have not done it. They are being condemned by their enemy.
The grace that covers me goes way beyond my frail conscience, my God's grace lifts me, cleanses me, restores me.
I am washed clean and am grateful for He is good. He is my life, strength and song. Amen!
Endurance carries a prize, stay focused and run the race, the prize awaits you. Amen!
